DST messiness

While nothing truly horrible happened, I discovered the true perils of working in a global company during DST changeover.

I had to start reporting meeting times in GMT because everything got so messed up. Basically, depending on when the meeting was scheduled and when the PC the person who scheduled the meeting patched their PC made the determination of whether the meeting made the change or not.

Even better, if a meeting was messed up due to DST, if you tried to update it to the correct time, it would list the correct time in the meeting announcment (i.e. 10-11am) but then display as GMT-5 instead of GMT-4 so that everyone who accepted it had it put in the 11-12am time slot.

I give up.

I'm going to ZULU.

Reviews of '300'

I was reading the reviews today in the NY Times and Wash Post about '300'. What so completely astounds me is that Sparta is being depicted as the 'model of freedom' . Sure... if a command system ruled by a single person with harsh discipline and mandatory long service in the army is a model of freedom.

But then, I learned about Athens/Sparta through the prism of the cold war. Maybe that's clouding my opinion.
