Online NewsHour: Resignations Mark Power Struggle Within CIA -- November 15, 2004

The return of McCarthy era purges? Then it was the state department, which may also get purged with Powell's resignation. Now its starting with the CIA. I read some right wing accounts defending this as the refuge for liberals who escaped the McCarthy purge. "Of course. I mean, they all came from Yale, which didn't exactly preach Social Darwinism. And then remember that during the McCarthy purges, any leftist at State who could get to CIA, jumped, and Allen Dulles protected them all. In the Fifties and early Sixties, the State Department was much more hard-line than the agency." (National Review Online).

Never mind that its been 50 YEARS since those purges, so all of those people are long retired. I don't recall a ton of people from Yale going to the CIA. They were much more interested in hitting wall street or doing consulting.

American Idiots

In no particular order, the inane populace voted to:
  • destroy the environment
  • starve the poor
  • increase surveillance in the bedroom
  • decrease oversight of corporations
  • promote cronyism
  • nullify political discussion of any topic - there is only one answer: what God supposedly told Bush
  • remove fiscal responsibility from the government - and with that, bring on the inflation
  • end public schools
  • reward the rich with even more money

In 4 more years, we'll have another two wars... Iran and North Korea maybe? 50% of the population will be officially poor. We'll have about 5% inflation per year. All muslims will be held indeterminately in jail - after all, their God isn't "our" God...

Someone save us.

A little picture from the start of the Packers / Skins game yesterday. Awesome seats. Except for all the action at the other end of the field.

Bush is screwing with my midterms

I'm not particularly looking forward to my options midterm. I still can't quite get how to set up arbitrage correctly. I have values that seem to work, but, when I compare them to what I'm supposed to have, I'm way off. But, last week the midterm got postponed because the proctor brought the wrong exam. This week, classes are cancelled because Bush needs the space for his election night rally. What an annoyance.
