Refereeing in NE Div
So, I started asking around for who I should get in contact with for refereeing local events in NE.
Here's the response:
Jon Moss
David Blake
Sharon Everson (for collegiate stuff, I know she's NJ)
Paul Levy (for collegiate stuff, I know he's Philly)
Jane Carter
Linda Merrit
Syd Fadner
So, 2 people who have run FOC at NACs, frequently in charge...
Should improve my visibility anyways... good or bad.

Between you, me, and the fence post....
I don't know all the people on the list, but...Between Jon and David, I find David a more comfortable person to be around. I like Jon well enough; he has a dry sense of humor and is pleasant, but I don't feel as relaxed around him, although that may just be because I'm more conscious of his role in the FOC -- but even when I'm not wearing my reffing hat...
Sharon routinely terrifies the hell out of people, but I do actually like her and respect the hell out of her. She's very gruff, but very very efficient and no nonsense, which occasionally can rub folks the wrong way. But after years of running into her in USFA and NCAA circles, I've learned how much she really cares and that if you're on her good side, it's a happy place to be.
These are just the people hiring for local events. Paul is big on the veterans circuit. Jane is one of the people involved with what used to be the high performance committee. I don't know Linda Merrit, but the name is very familiar. Syd Fadner I also don't know but he's the coach at Boston College.
Its just the prominent-ness of these guys that gets me. If I do well, it'll boost me at nationals because they already know my skills. If I don't.... I may already be sunk. I'm used to dealing with CapDiv and VA with it being the local organizers who run things, not the big boys nationally who intimidate me a bit.
From my interactions at previous nationals, I get along fine with the first 3. Sharon usually doesn't interact with me that much since I'm in epee... I usually get Gerrie.
At least the local person doing the organizing and oversight isn't Korfanty... That would be a nightmare from a reffing point of view. Its bad enough dealing with him at nationals.
actually, i think Syd is a "she" rather than a "he"...IIRC, she's a very intense, short woman. and yes, that is an intimidating crowd.

Well, Jon does anyways. He tried to hire me for the weekend that I'm moving up (sorry, but no). Luckily, Jon was the ref (along with Mary Frye) who guided me up to a 4, so I think he likes my refereeing.
